As far as I can tell. the Apps screen lists all apps that have ever been run on the computer since AppControl was installed? Is that right? Some apps have multiple entries with the same name - I assume these are just updated versions?
Suggestions:
It is useful to see any updates that have been done. But it would be better to put a date right next to the app name rather than having to click on it to see the date.
If it is indeed all updates since AppControl was installed that this will become very unwieldly fairly soon. Can you add a filter to show only apps currently running or had run since the last boot. Also perhaps just since a user chosen date? I think an option to clear that history would be useful too - perhaps say the last week, month or X days or whatever.
What exactly is the x83 or whatever next to some of the instances - is it the number of processes currently running? If so then say “x83 Currently Running” on the screen?
Sometimes there is a small blue triangle and sometimes a > (greater than). What does that actually mean? Perhaps adding a tool tip would help explain.
@Hooby yes, what you write above is absolutely correct.
Got it! We are also considering reconsidering how this is done completely where we just list one app instead of multiple, for updated apps. We’re looking at what is possible technically for this problem and we agree it’s not perfect how it is now.
Thanks for your feedback on only showing recent apps. I will say that there is a search feature at the top, so you can dial down to the app you are looking for in seconds. We’ll discuss if there is a way to have a “recent” category there as another sorting option.
Yes the x3 etc… means how many instances are running. Yes, we should be more clear but we have limited space there. I will see if we can do a tooltip or something as you recommend.
Blue means it is actively running now, while empty means it is not running. Yes, we actually have spent quite a lot of time trying to figure out how to convey this information and we came up with the “play” button, but we are open to other ideas on how we can convey an app is currently running, vs not
Thanks for taking the time to post this so we can learn and improve AppControl.
